We all need to talk to someone who will not judge us, someone we can fully and honestly be ourselves with. The process of psychotherapy allows us to explore personal experiences and examine how they have influenced our present, which can help us gain greater self-awareness and individual understanding. It welcomes back parts of the self that are forgotten, often judged and exiled by ourselves and others, so we can heal them and develop more authentic and creative ways of living and relating to others. Furthermore, it allows us to stay with personal problems and important life questions and think about them in depth so we can find suitable mechanisms and choices that can bring relief.
No one is an expert on how to live. Although the therapist's knowledge and clinical experience matter, the therapeutic relationship is primarily a person-to-person human relationship and a crucial vehicle for change and growth for the client. Through an authentic engagement and commitment of the therapeutic relationship, we have the opportunity to learn how to express ourselves with honesty and define our personal boundaries and our availability in our relationships. This can in turn help us enjoy deeper and meaningful relationships to others and to life itself. We all live for the first time and to ask for help is not a sign of weakness.
One does not need to go through a crisis or have a serious mental disorder to benefit from individual psychotherapy sessions. The sessions are exploratory in nature and can focus on personal development issues as well as difficulties such as depression, anxiety and relationship problems. My therapeutic approach is Integrative and adapts to the needs of the client, drawing on ideas from Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy. Treatment can be short-term or long-term.
I also offer time-limited psychotherapy, known as Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT), which can help people with depression and relationship problems. More specifically, DIT focuses on understanding and modifying repetitive relational patterns that are linked to difficulties in relationships with the aim of enhancing interpersonal functioning and improving mood.
The sessions are provided in Nicosia as well as online via Skype. The treatment can be conducted in Greek and English.
